Body Image and Psychology



Phillippa Diedrichs is a Professor of Psychology at the Centre for Appearance Research, University of the West of England in Bristol, UK. She has an international reputation for creating and using evidence-based insights and strategies to improve body image in community, education, corporate, and policy settings on a local, national, and global scale.  

“The evidence-based positive body image tools that Professor Diedrichs has co-created and evaluated have been delivered in 139 countries to over 8.5 million young people through multi-stakeholder partnerships with global youth organisations and business.  

With a PhD in Health Psychology, she is passionate about working in partnership to create environments that accept diversity in appearance and support people, particularly girls and women, to live free from the constraint of appearance concerns. 

She has served as an advisor to the British Government, including the Equalities Office, the Minister for Women and Equalities, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image, and the Mayor of London. She has also provided evidence to UK parliamentary select committees.
